FinanceAsia, one of Asia’s leading capital markets publications, recently announced its list of Best Companies in Asia for 2023. In the said list, Metro Manila East Zone concessionaire Manila Water was declared as the Best Small-Cap Company and Best Utilities Company in the Philippines, after the Company bagged Gold in both categories.

Manila Water Company (MWC) continues to extend cross-border sharing to Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (MWSI) to alleviate supply woes in the latter’s concession area. This cross-border sharing deal allows Maynilad to tap treated water from Manila Water’s distribution network.

Manila Water is on par with water utilities in developed countries when it comes to the level of water losses, or non-revenue water (NRW). In 2022, Manila Water averaged 12.69% NRW, which is one of the lowest in Asia. Non-revenue water is defined as water that is not billed and is lost through leaks or illegal connections. This means that for every cubic meter of water produced, only around 0.12 cubic meters are lost. This is a stark difference from the 63% NRW inherited by the company in 1997.

Throughout the years, Manila Water has put premium in developing systems and technologies to better serve their customers and lessen its environmental impact in its operations. At the National Economic Development Authority’s Innovation Day exhibit (April 28) held at the Philippine International Convention Center, the water concessionaire had the chance to showcase six cutting-edge technologies used in its operations to achieve various corporate goals and deliver lasting impact to the communities they serve.

Forty-four (44) barangays in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal Province will have the opportunity to have their septic tanks cleaned in May, at no additional cost, as Manila Water brings its desludging services to their areas.
