As in-person classes resume, the need to ensure the health and safety of learners and teachers is more crucial now than ever. Through its collaboration project #SafeWASH in Schools, Manila Water Foundation and P&G’s Safeguard Philippines aim to strengthen efforts to promote a safe and conducive learning environment. This entails the construction of 10-faucet, foot-pedal-operated hygiene facilities, distribution of hygiene supplies, provision of info-education materials, and conduct of hygiene education sessions. 

Manila Water, an industry pioneer in sustainability practices, has released the first series of its medium-term sustainability goals that outlines its progress and plans on embedding Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) into their business strategies. The ESG goals highlight Manila Water’s belief that long-term viability is dependent on management of environmental impacts and commitment to improve social outcomes in the communities it serves.

Manila Water made history by becoming the first water company from the Philippines and from any developing country, to be given the distinction as Water Company of the Year in the highly coveted 2022 Global Water Awards as part of the 2022 Global Water Summit held recently at the La Quinta De Jarama in Madrid, Spain.

Manila Water President & Chief Executive Officer Jocot de Dios shared the water company’s initiatives to ensure the continuous delivery of water supply and wastewater services for its service areas within the eastern part of Metro Manila and beyond during the recently concluded Singapore International Water Week’s plenary session entitled, ‘Adapting to Climate Impact: Resilience against extreme weather events and sea level rise’.

Manila Water Company’s use of at least 13 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green energy in 2021 has reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by over 9,000 tons. According to Jocot de Dios, President and CEO of Manila Water, the utilization of 13.8 kWh of renewable energy enabled the water concessionaire to attain a decrease of 9,100 tons in its carbon emissions.
