Manila Water is now operating an additional 34 deep wells in its concession area. As of June 9, 2019, 43.42 million liters of water per day (MLD) have been drawn from these deep wells and is seen to bring more water supply upon full operation of more deepwells in the coming months.

Manila Water’s Cardona Water Treatment Plant is now distributing 50 to 56 million liters of water per day (MLD) initially to barangays in Binangonan, Angono, Taytay, Baras and Jalajala, Rizal. Other beneficiary areas in Rizal will soon receive water when the plant progressively increases production in the coming months. The Cardona WTP started its operations last March 14, 2019, following completion of Phase 1 of the project and will help augment the water supply for the East Zone, which has been experiencing an average supply deficit of 150 MLD.

Manila Water has completed its interconnection and pipe laying activities along Tandang Sora Avenue, Quezon City. The completion of 300 mm pipeline allowed up to 2.5 mld of water sharing between West Zone concessionaire, Maynilad and Manila Water in the East Zone. Maynilad committed to share up to 50 million liters (MLD) of water per day which will help alleviate the water situation in the East Zone.

Even in light of continued challenges in water supply availability and distribution, Manila Water has been able to bring down its supply deficit to 43 million liters per day (MLD) coming from 150 MLD in March this year. This despite the steady increase in demand owing to the warmer and more humid climate of late.

Manila Water has recently started operating an additional 26 deepwells in its concession area. As of May 20, 2019, more than 34 million liters of water per day (MLD) have been drawn from these deepwells and is seen to bring more water supply upon full operation of more deepwells in the coming months.
