Manila Water’s customer base continues to expand, with 33,909 new water service connections installed in 2022. From 1997 to 2022, Manila Water has installed a total of 1,150,297 water service connections which translates to 7,460,705 customers.

East Zone concessionaire Manila Water has recorded a significant increase in its new water connections since the pandemic, as it expands its total water service connections to 1,150,297 from August 1997 to December 2022.

In 2022 alone, Manila Water has installed 33,909 new water service connections which is 56% higher than the 21,680 new water service connections in 2021. With the new water services, Manila Water’s customer base has now increased to a total of 7,460,705 customers by the end of 2022. Manila Water attributes the increase with the gradual recovery of the economy following the easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Of the 33,909 new water service connections, 33,070 are domestic and 839 are commercial and industrial. The total new domestic water connections translate to 165,350 families with access to 24/7 water supply and quality sanitation services from Manila Water.

A significant portion of the total water service connections provides uninterrupted water supply to base-of-the-pyramid population in the East Zone where the company’s flagship program ‘Tubig Para Sa Barangay’ or Water for the Community has completed more than 750 projects that benefitted about 2 million residents from low-income communities.

Manila Water’s service improvement program includes expansion of its water coverage particularly in the still-unserved towns of Rizal Province. As Phase 1 of the Wawa Calawis Water System Project has been completed, it is expected that more residents of the Antipolo area will have access to 24/7 water supply.

“For the past 25 years since the start of the concession, Manila Water has been implementing projects to further improve and expand our services, aligning all our initiatives from operations to customer service to achieve our major goal which is to provide clean and potable water supply available to all our customers 24/7.” says Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director.
