Manila Water installs Activated Filter Media (AFM) in Balara Treatment Plant

Manila Water aims to optimize the operations of its Balara Treatment Plant 2 (BTP 2) by reducing its chemical consumption through the installation of the Activated Filter Media (AFM). Manila Water Operations Group Director Arnold Jether Mortera shared that the use of AFM requires less backwash water and can remove iron and manganese. Activated Filter Media is a highly processed product in the form of particles with enhanced filtration features, lessening the need for additional infrastructure. These are usually composed of recycled green and amber glass. The current filtration media used at BTP 2 are composed of silica sand.

Manila Water’s East Zone water network reaches more than 5,000 kilometers

Manila Water’s network of water lines continues to expand as part of its continuing commitment to further provide greater access and ensure delivery of potable water particularly to the highest and farthest locations within the east concession area, As of March 2022, Manila Water has laid and now maintains 5,290 kilometers of water pipelines in eastern Metro Manila and parts of Rizal province.
