Manila Water underscores importance of desludging to safeguard environmental and community health

For the month of October, Manila Water customers from 63 barangays in the East Zone will have an opportunity to have their septic tanks cleaned at no additional cost.

Manila Water continues to bring essential sanitation services to its customers in the East Zone highlighted by monthly desludging caravan which offers household septic tank siphoning at no additional cost.

For the month of October, Manila Water’s desludging trucks will be present in Barangay E. Rodriguez, East Kamias, Krus Na Ligas, Pinagkaisahan, Sauyo, Silangan, Tandang Sora, UP Campus, Kalusugan, West Kamias and San Vicente in Quezon City; Barangay Barangka Drive, Harapin Ang Bukas, Barangka Ibaba, Barangka Ilaya, Barangka Itaas, Malamig, Pleasant Hills, San Jose, and Vergara in Mandaluyong City; Barangay CEMBO, Bangkal, Kasilawan and Guadalupe Viejo in Makati City; Barangay Salapan, Corazon De Jesus, Batis and Kabayanan in San Juan City; Barangay Bagong Ilog, Dela Paz and San Jose in Pasig City; Barangay Ibayo-Tipas in Taguig City; and in Barangay 764, 765, 767, 769, 775, 776, 778, 790, 791, 796, 798, 877, 878, 879, 880, 895 and 900 in the City of Manila.

Manila Water’s desludging caravan will also go around barangays in different cities and municipalities in the Rizal Province. Residents of Barangay Beverly Hills, Mambugan, Inarawan, San Juan, and Muntindilaw in Antipolo City; Barangay Mahabang Parang, Calumpang, and Bilibiran in Binangonan; Barangay San Juan, Santo Domingo and San Isidro in Cainta; Barangay San Jose and San Isidro in Montalban; and in Barangay Mahabang Parang in Angono.

With the celebration of National Cleanup Month and World Environmental Health Day in September, Manila Water reiterates the importance of regular desludging of septic tanks to help safeguard the health of the community and contribute towards environmental protection as well.

“We all know that the health of the ecology and the environment we are in is directly related to the well-being of our family and the community. According to data from the World Health Organization, more than 100 illnesses and injuries can be directly linked to environmental health concerns, such as soil pollution, water pollution, ultraviolet radiation, and climate change.”, says Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director.

With regular siphoning of septic tanks through Manila Water’s desludging caravan, wastewater is properly collected and treated in the Company’s septage treatment facilities, following global guidelines on effluent and other regulations set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, making sure that the treated wastewater is safe for the marine biodiversity and thus abating water pollution.
