Manila Water Foundation brings WASH advocacy in Bulacan, Pangasinan and Cebu

Manila Water Foundation partnered with Cebu Water, JCI QC Capitol and JCI Womandaue to provide refrigerated drinking fountains for learners in Cesar M. Cabahug Elementary School and Basak Elementary School.

Manila Water Foundation recently led a round of collaboration activities to deliver water access, sanitation and hygiene or WASH projects in several provinces in the Philippines, with the help of Manila Water Non-East Zone subsidiaries and other partners in the private sector.

Offering clean and refreshing drinking water, Manila Water Foundation and Cebu Water handed over refrigerated drinking fountains and hygiene kits and delivered a hygiene education session for learners of Cesar M. Cabahug Elementary School and Basak Elementary School in Mandaue City, Cebu. With JCI QC Capitol and JCI Womandaue, almost 5,000 students, teaching, and non-teaching staff are ensured of refreshing and clean drinking water on campus.

In Bulacan, Manila Water Foundation, with Bulakan Water, inaugurated a multi-faucet hand hygiene facility in Sta. Ana Elementary School in Bulakan, Bulacan to support water access and hygiene for more than 300 students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

The inauguration was attended by Bulakan Water Technical Operations Manager Jezreel Tolentino and Bulakan, Bulacan Vice Mayor Aika Sanchez, together with municipal councilors Archie San Jose, Benjo Cruz Jr., and Marbin Garcia.

Manila Water Foundation also led a hygiene education session for students to keep them safe from communicable diseases, embedding the lifelong habit of proper hand washing. Hygiene supplies and info-education materials were also handed over to the school.

All these efforts under the Lingap Eskwela program of MWF are in support of the WASH in Schools or WinS program of the Department of Education.

In Pangasinan, MWF and Calasiao Water provided subsidy to new water service connections applications from 132 low-income families residing in 41 barangays in Calasiao. MWF will shoulder 65% of the total cost of the application fee.

In Pangasinan, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, Manila Water Foundation with Calasiao Water provided subsidized new water service connections (NWSC) for 132 low-income families. 

Among the beneficiaries are residents of Barangays Macabito, Doyong, Nagsaing, Buenlag, Ambuetel, Songkoy, Mancup, Longos, Dinalaoan, Lumbang, Nalsian, San Miguel, Malabago, Poblacion West, and San Vicente.

Calasiao Water Operations Manager Allan Aquino, Calasiao Mayor Kevin Roy Macanlalay, Vice Mayor Nestor Gabrillo and the Barangay Chairman of all 15 barangays were present during the turnover ceremony.

Under the Ahon Tubig program for Calasiao beneficiaries, MWF will shoulder 65% of the application fee for new water service connections to Calasiao Water. From P5,700, the beneficiaries will only be required to pay P2,000 for the application fee and installation.

Units of the portable handwashing device Lixil SATO Tap were also handed over to partner families to ensure that households have access to a handwashing point to support their health and well-being.
