Manila Water joined the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in the recent unveiling of the “Puso Para Sa Ilog Pasig Love Lock Station” organized by the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC). The seven-foot tall love lock station takes after similar tourist attractions in countries like Korea, France, UK and Germany. The partnership between Manila Water and PRRC symbolizes a commitment to bring back Pasig River to its pristine condition.

Manila Water Operations Chief Operating Officer Geodino V. Carpio said the company helped in designing the love lock station as well in its production.

“We at Manila Water fully support the PRRC’s mission to transform Pasig River into a showcase of a new quality of urban life, a river that is clean and alive reflective of our country's noble history and progress,” Carpio said during at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and unveiling of the Love Lock station at Guadalupe Nuevo Ferry Station in Makati City.

“We are closely working with the PRRC’s Environmental Management Committee and the Public Information, Advocacy and Tourism Committee (PIATCOMM) to harmonize and mount joint environmental initiatives that will help address the various challenges in our drive to clean up Pasig River. This includes raising awareness among residents living along the riverbanks on the effects of untreated used water on the water quality of Pasig River,” Carpio added.

Manila Water has long been a staunch advocate and supporter of environmental protection since it started operating in the East Zone in 1997. Celebrating two decades of dedicated service to communities and the environment, Manila Water has also intensified its environmental advocacies such as “Toka Toka Para Sa Malinis na Ilog,” aimed at deepening the sense of ownership and responsibility of households in maintaining and preserving the waterways.

For his part, PRRC Executive Director Jose Antonio E. Goitia said that since the start of the ‘Puso Para sa Ilog Pasig’ campaign, PRRC has been overwhelmed with pledges of love and support for the Pasig River. He added that one of PRRC’s goals is to restore the Pasig River’s water quality to Class C level, which can sustain fish and other aquatic resources.

“I personally appreciate pledges as simple as not throwing garbage to the esteros and to the Pasig River because those simple acts already make you part of the solution. Thus, many people will follow your good example,” Goitia explained. “With this Pasig River Love Lock Station made accessible to the public, we expect to gain more partners in our mission to restore the Pasig River to its old glory” Goitia added.
