Manila Water Foundation, along with Safeguard Philippines and Manila Water East Zone Business Operations Group, handed over boxes of Safeguard hand soaps to 12 public hospitals through the “Maging Ligtas, Mag-#SAFEWASH” campaign.

Manila Water Foundation, MWSS, and Safeguard Philippines handed over product support to 12 public hospitals in their campaign to promote hand washing with soap and water to avoid the spread of germs and communicable diseases. This is part of the Health in our Hands program of Manila Water Foundation which aims to raise awareness on the importance of sanitation and the healthy habits of proper toothbrushing and proper hand washing. The donation handover is a concrete synergy response as the Department of Health (DOH) notes a rise in COVID-19 cases and reports that the country now has 28 infections of the XBB.1.16 Omicron COVID-19 subvariant commonly known as the “Arcturus”.

At the event, Manila Water East Zone Business Operations Group Director Shoebe Caong said “We would like to affirm our commitment and support, especially to our customers, our partner-hospitals who are in the forefront of the fight with COVID-19. Ang share naman namin dito, we ensure na dapat maayos ang suplay ng tubig sa ating partner-hospitals 24/7 and adequate pressure. (We would like to affirm our commitment and support especially to our customers, our partner-hospitals who are in the forefront of the fight with COVID-19. To ensure that our partner-hospitals have 24/7 water supply and adequate pressure remains to be our share in this initiative.), says Caong. She added that the same service quality should be expected as Manila Water works with the LGUs to anticipate the effects of El Niño.

Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System or MWSS through the Policy, Planning and Public Relations Acting Manager Jonathan Lamug expressed support to the various programs on water access, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) led by Manila Water and Manila Water Foundation.

The said campaign aims to promote handwashing with soap and water to avoid the spread of communicable diseases, especially COVID-19, in public areas and institutions.
The representatives of the public hospitals expressed gratitude to Safeguard Philippines and Manila Water Foundation for the timely initiative. The premium hygiene products will be used in the hospital washrooms and hand washing areas of the hospital compound. The donated products will also protect the frontliners: nurses, hospital staff and doctors who deliver critical health care services.

“On behalf of the Philippines General Hospital, we would like to thank the Manila Water Foundation and its valued partner, P&G Safeguard Philippines, for having chosen PGH as one of your recipients of hygiene products and promote Maging Ligtas, Mag-#SAFEWASH. Your donation will be a big help to the PGH community and rest assured that these supplies will be handed over to our patients and health workers who are most in need of protection especially now that we are facing an increase in positivity rate of COVID-19 cases.”, says Niña Zabal, a representative from the Philippine General Hospital.

The public hospitals which have received the hygiene products are: Antipolo City Hospital – System Annex 3, Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina, East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City and Mandaluyong City Medical Center and Ospital ng Makati, The Pasig City General Hospital, Pedro Gil Lying-in Center in Manila, Philippine Blood Center in Quezon City, Philippine General Hospital, San Juan Medical Center, Sta. Ana Hospital – Manila, and the Taguig Pateros District Hospital also received donations to help keep the patients, visitors and frontliners safe and germ-free.
