Manila Water follows a structured process to identify, understand, validate, and prioritize its most material sustainability issues on a regular basis. The determination of material issues to the Company were guided by the following considerations:

  • Reporting frameworks adopted by Manila Water, such as:
    • Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
    • Integrated Reporting
    • Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB)
    • United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)
  • Current and emerging risks/ issues critical to achieving strategic objectives and the sustainability of the operating models of the business units;
  • Feedback from key stakeholders gathered through virtual platforms due to the pandemic such as surveys, bulletins, social media, videoconferencing, and;
  • Public controversies

Through the years, the Company evolved the scope and quality of its sustainability reporting in sync with the improvements in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) specifications to respond to the growing expectations of the investing community, and recently, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) reporting framework.
