In its commitment to increase sewer coverage in Mandaluyong, San Juan, and Quezon City as part of its service obligation, Manila Water recently held a ceremonial contract signing with its partners for the construction of the Aglipay Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). The company partnered with two acknowledged experts in their respective fields, Suez Asia’s Water Asia Business and Megawide Construction Corporation, for process design and construction, respectively.

“[Primary] in our list is really being able to continue providing world-class facilities and services to our customers. And we realized quite early on that there's no way that we're going to be able to do it without partnerships with large companies [that] have [the] expertise, [and] are willing to work progressively,” shared Robert Michael Baffrey, Group Director for Corporate Project Management.

According to Manila Water Strategic Asset Management Group Director, Evangeline Clemente, Manila Water has a long pipeline of projects for implementation and remained committed to the service obligation to customers. “We will be bothering so many customers and stakeholders, it is really important that we work together to implement this project with the time, the cost and quality that we’ve agreed upon,” Clemente added.

During the ceremonial contract signing, representatives of the two companies expressed their commitment to ensure the success of the partnership.

“Suez Water is really eager to [create a] new story in the Philippines,” said François Fevrier, CEO of Suez Asia’s Water Asia Business. He further adds, “We are investing on new partnerships with local contractors and, now, with Manila Water. Today is the first step for us and we are here to help not only in technology but also [in bringing] some solutions in terms of advanced system treatment.”

“We commit to provide our best, [that is why] we keep on asking ourselves what value we can give to our clients and to the industry. The team is very open to new ideas that would hopefully uplift the standard of our construction,” said Edgar Saavedra, President and CEO of Megawide.

The Aglipay STP is part of the Mandaluyong West Sewerage System project, and has a capacity of 60 million liters per day (MLD), expandable to 120 MLD.

The event formally sealed Manila Water’s partnership with Megawide and Suez Asia, with the hope of fostering a harmonious working relationship and a culture of knowledge sharing to raise the industry bar in project delivery. Guided by Manila Water consultants’ expertise, Black & Veatch and DCCD, this project is expected to be implemented in a faster and more efficient manner.
