The "Lakbayan" or Water Trail program aims to promote stakeholder awareness on the value of water and the need for wise use of water and proper used water management. Participants are exposed to the entire water cycle – from the raw water source, to the treatment process and distribution and up to used water treatment process.
Lakbayan tours have been participated in by more than 800 groups and over 25,000 individuals from local communities, public schools, academe, local government units, national government agencies, media, non-government organizations, foreign institutions and private companies.
Greening the Supply Chain
Manila Water values its supply chain as a crucial business partner in providing water and used water services. The company ensures the sustainability of its supply chain by encouraging them to adopt sustainability in the conduct of their businesses and to align their company policies and programs with the company's sustainability thrusts.
One of Manila Water's initiatives to uplift the environmental performance of its vendors is the Greening the Supply Chain program. Vendors are provided with training and technical assistance on cleaner production, energy efficiency, solid waste management, hazardous waste management, environmental laws and other environmental topics.
Green vendor awards are presented to companies that have successfully implemented measures to lessen environmental impacts of their operations, reduce business cost and provide better workplace to its employees. Suppliers and contractors of Manila Water participated in the Green Philippines Islands of Sustainability (GPIoS), an Ecoswitch Program of the European Union. Fifteen of these companies were recognized with an Ecoswitch Certification for their successful implementation of environmental measures.
