Manila Water continues to promote gender equality in the workplace, with a majority of women taking on leadership and technical roles. To date, the number of women leaders in its key departments is equal to men and even higher.

The Company has 81 females and 74 males as Department Heads, while 8 females and 6 males are taking over the Division Head roles. “We also have an equal number of Group Directors, with 10 females and 10 males,” said Janine Carreon, Manila Water’s Group Director for Human Resources.

Out of the total 589 Company leaders, 259 are women. This forms part of Manila Water’s growing commitment in providing equal opportunities to its female employees and in helping them grow and succeed in their respective fields.

“Manila Water has always regarded its employees as the most important resource and partner in creating lasting value and driving positive changes. Moving forward, we aim to make the Company a place that champions diversity, equity, and sustainability,” Carreon added.

To further support inclusivity in the workplace, the company has also included common law and LGBTQIA+ partners of their employees as dependents in their group life insurance policy. In addition, the company conducted seminars promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity in the workforce. These form part of the company’s commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.

Sustainability team

Committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), specifically the fifth goal that encourages gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls, Manila Water’s Sustainability team is also helmed by all-female members.

To achieve its corporate vision of becoming a global leader in providing quality water and environmental services supportive of sustainable development, Manila Water created a Sustainability Framework that captures and communicates its contributions and impact to the environment and society at large.

In 2021, the Company laid the groundwork for the development of mid-term sustainability targets on water access and security, carbon emission reduction and capital expenditure as part of its business strategy.

“Manila Water continues to celebrate our women leaders and their unique contributions in helping us deliver world-class services tailored to the needs of the communities we serve, and in building a sustainable future,” Carreon said.
