This activity signifies Manila Water’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its response to MWSS’ call for participation in the Annual Million Trees Challenge (AMTC). The AMTC is a 5-year program that promotes water security and protection of the environment and encourages its partners to contribute and adopt a land. For this, Manila Water is adopting 200 hectares of land at the La Mesa Watershed and will plant seedlings together with its subsidiaries and partner government agencies and local government units. The ceremonial tree planting activity is a primer for the Arbor Day celebration in June 2022.

Manila Water President and CEO Jocot de Dios shared that the company is committed to protecting and restoring water sources both surface water and groundwater. He also explained that partnership is key to securing good raw water quality while enhancing biodiversity and contributing to carbon capture for climate change mitigation.

Joining the event were MWSS-CO Admin Leonor Cleofas, DENR- NCR Regional Executive Director Jacqueline Caancan, MWSS-CO Water and Sewerage Department Manager Ramon Fabul, MWSS-RO Chief Regulator Atty Patrick Lester Ty, LWUA Officer-in-Charge Eileen Dela Vega, ABS-CBN Managing Director Roberta Lopez-Feliciano together with Manila Water officials.

The tree planting activity will be followed by LAKBAY KALIKASAN: Hike and Bike for Nature on the 23rd of April 2022, Saturday, 6:00 am at the La Mesa Nature Reserve, Quirino Highway, Quezon.

Around 50 hikers and 100 bikers from Manila Water and partner agencies registered for the event. The 4.5-kilometer hike trail highlights the biodiversity inside the La Mesa Nature Reserve while the 9-kilometer bike trail takes cyclists to a scenic  run within the La Mesa Watershed.
