Members of the faculty of the College of Engineering and Architecture of the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) in Quezon City and Manila, led by Vice President for Human Resources Ramon de Leon, visited the various facilities of Manila Water starting off at the La Mesa Dam to the filtration plant and pumping station in Balara all the way to the University of the Philippines Sewage Treatment Plant.

The tour of the different facilities is part of Manila Water’s “Lakbayan” Program, which aims to instill environmental awareness and consciousness among the general public, from students to professionals alike, and allow them to better appreciate the different processes on how water gets into the customer’s tap. The program is widely received by the different stakeholder groups as it enables them to gain a deeper understanding of water as a precious resource.
The visiting engineering professors from TIP also did an ocular inspection of the electromechanical controls of the pumping stations and treatment plants. They are also exploring the possibility of doing a collaborative research with Manila Water on providing low-cost sanitation systems to the low-income groups of the east concession area.
