Quality water for Metro schools

Posted: Thursday November 29, 2007

Manila Water continues to intensify its schools’ program known as Lingap Eskwela with the recent completion of New Era High School and Quezon City High School in Quezon City and Nueve de Febrero Elementary School in Mandaluyong.

Top local government officials led by Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos lauded Manila Water’s initiatives to provide safe drinking water to all public elementary and high schools in the East Concession of Ayala-led concessionaire. Besides the provision of potable water, Manila Water also undertook the desludging of the schools’ septic tanks to promote an environment-friendly campus designed to improve the health and hygiene of the students.

It is expected that the school children (inset) will lessen, if not totally eliminate their dependence on bottled water for their drinking needs.

Samples taken from the nearly one thousand sampling points within the East Concession have passed the stringent Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW). Likewise, to ensure that high quality water flows throughout the Manila Water network, the Ayala-led concessionaire has earmarked about 6 billion pesos annually to lay new lines and continue to rehabilitate the old lines to eradicate all possible avenues and entry points of contamination.
