Providing water for informal settlers and low-income communities has been a major thrust of Manila Water since it started its operations of the East concession in 1997.

After a decade of successful public private partnership, the country’s premier water and wastewater service provider begins 2008 with more Tubig Para Sa Barangay (TPSB) projects starting off in Sitio Sapa, Barangay Pagasa, Binangonan, Rizal. More than 200 households are expected to be connected with completion of the water project which is one of the many community projects funded through the World Bank’s Global Partnership for Output-Based Assistance (GPOBA). Besides the provision of water services to the community, Manila Water also conducted desludging of septic tanks in Barangay Pagasa and installed three fire hydrants.

The TBSP program has been hailed as a model program for providing the essential water services for very poor families including those who do not formally own the lands where they live on. Manila Water has completed about 644 TPSB projects benefiting nearly 1.3 million people from the low-income group. The East Zone concessionaire is bent on completing more water projects for the low-income families especially in Rizal Province, where vast tracts of land have been converted into residential areas.
