Besides providing for water and wastewater/ sanitation services within the East Concession area, Ayala-led concessionaire Manila Water has also included in its long list of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, a livelihood initiative called Kabuhayan Para Sa Barangay (KPSB) or Livelihood for the Community program. The program aims to create sustainable livelihood for communities by ensuring their greater participation in the Manila Water supply chain.
To achieve this, Manila Water has begun harnessing the power of neighborhood cooperatives by equipping them with the skills to produce products and provide services which are related to the water and wastewater service industry. One such cooperative is the Samahan ng Mahihirap sa Daang Bakal, Dela Paz, Antipolo, Inc., which will produce safety signage and project board-ups as well as fabricate meter protectors for household meters.
Since the KPSB program was launched about two years ago, Manila Water has extended micro financing assistance to about twenty (20) community-based cooperatives within the East Zone providing services such as printing, fabrication of bollards for fire hydrants, project identification/ signage, among others.
The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Manila Water and the city government of Antipolo was capped with the ceremonial turnover of the P50,000.00 check. Attending the MOA signing and check turnover were (from left to right) Noel Ong, Manila Water’s Corporate Program Manager for KPSB, Barangay Captain Francisco “King” R.
