Manila Water recently made a courtesy call to Vice President Noli de Castro where it presented its service improvement plan for the residents of the East Zone of Metro Manila and the Rizal Province. The former also presented what the public private partnership has done over the past ten years since Manila Water took over the operations of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.

Vice President de Castro was especially interested in Manila Water’s flagship program Tubig Para Sa Barangay and the Kabuhayan Para sa Barangay programs and how these programs can be implemented in housing and resettlement projects within the East Zone.
Also discussed was the Quezon City Central Business District development plan and the need to integrate a water and wastewater plan to meet the demands of district. Vice President Noli De Castro said that the development plan includes a possible dual piping system (one pipe system for potable water and another for gray water) for the Business District which if implemented, would be a world class initiative.
Manila Water has been successful in providing 24-hour water supply to 98% of its Central Distribution System from only 26% in 1997. The company’s nearly P26 billion-capital investment program has resulted into reducing system losses from 63% in 1997 to 24% by the end of 2007 making more water available to nearly 5.3 million residents in the East Zone. The Vice President has also signified his intent to attend to the inaugurations of the company’s various corporate social and environmental responsibility projects.
