Manila Water intensifies desludging program

Posted: Wednesday May 9, 2007

After the inauguration of the multi-million South Septage Treatment Facility in FTI, Taguig, Manila Water continues to intensify its free desludging program which involves the cleaning and emptying of septic tanks.

The program, dubbed as Sanitasyon Para Sa Barangay (SPSB), has now reached Barangay Santolan in Pasig City. About 85 to 90% of the East Concession area is dependent on septic tanks and are without sewer lines. From April to August this year, more than 8400 households will be given free septic tank desludging service on a scheduled basis and in coordination with the barangays.

Currently, Manila Water has 53 desludging trucks to serve the entire East Zone Concession Area. The North Septage Treatment Plant in San Mateo, Rizal will be operational by June 2007 while another one is under construction. These projects are being undertaken as part of Manila Water’s commitment to ensure protection of our environment particularly in terms of controlling wastes dumped into our waterways.
