Manila Water Inaugurates First Disabled-Friendly Satellite Office

Posted: Tuesday August 5, 2008

The Balara Business Area office of East Zone concessionaire Manila Water became the first disabled-friendly satellite office to comply with Republic Act No. 6541, otherwise known as the National Building Code of the Philippines, for ensuring that its facilities are guaranteed safe and accessible even to the most physically challenged.

Property Management Department Head Joy Garcia said that the program is part of making all offices of Manila Water compliant and disabled-friendly by constructing comfort rooms for the physically challenged, ramp for wheel chairs and provision for fire exit and safety signs. About 90% of the company’s business area offices have already complied with the building code. Manila Water has satellite offices in Cubao, Mandaluyong, Makati, Marikina, Taguig and Antipolo.

The inauguration was attended by Engr. Roberto C. Beltran of Quezon City Engineering Department (inset, second from right), Manila Water Business Group Director Rene D. Almendras (inset, extreme right) and Human Resources and Corporate Services Director Ruel T. Maranan (inset, fourth from left). Disabled persons from the National Vocational Rehabilitation Center lent their talents for singing as they thanked Manila Water for the project, particularly the provision of disabled friendly comfort rooms and ramp.

Also gracing the occasion are Balara Area Business Manager Beth Cruz and Project Manager Mayette Labayne.
