Manila Water Chairman Fernando Zobel visited the Company’s latest water for the poor project in Baybay Sapa, San Mateo, Rizal much to the surprise of the 115 families who are the newest beneficiaries of piped-in clean and affordable water from the East Zone concessionaire.

Also joining Mr. Zobel (to his right) during the visit are International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Country Manager Jesse Ang and Manila Water officials led by its President Antonino T. Aquino, Chief Finance Officer Sherisa P. Nuesa and Human Resources Group Director Ruel T. Maranan.

In addition, Manila Water also provided after-the-meter appurtenances including faucets and water closets to these households who used to depend on shallow wells as their water sources. This is in line with the Company’s goal of providing complete water and wastewater services to its customers.

Manila Water further ensured that residents could avail of these services through its installment payment scheme. The Company advanced the costs of the after-the-meter pipelines going to their houses, faucets and water closets. These costs will paid by the customers in 36 monthly installments.

Manila Water hopes to replicate this project in other areas within the East Zone through a grant from the World Bank’s Global Partnership for Output-Based Aid (GPOBA) of which IFC is one of the donors.
