Manila Water Celebrates Earth Month

Manila Water celebrates April as Earth Month, the company’s tribute to the importance of the environment for sustainable development. This year, the company’s theme is Employee Social Responsibility focusing on the crucial role that employees play in supporting and spreading environmental responsibility.

Manila Water’s Earth Month was born from the international celebration of Earth Day every April 22. Manila Water expanded the celebration to a month to capture the many advocacies of the company.

Each of the four weeks of April is divided into themes representing major advocacies of the company. April 2 to 6 focuses on Air Pollution Prevention. April 9 to 13 focuses of Groundwater and Watershed Protection. April 16 to 20 focuses on Wastewater Management. April 23 to 27 focuses on Solid Waste Management.

Manila Water has always pursued the alignment of its business objectives with its environmental goals. Since 1997, the company already invested Php1 billion. The company will be investing another Php 4 billion in the next five years through the Manila Third Sewerage Project to even further expand wastewater services. The company not only reaps benefits from such projects but also contributes to the improvement of the water environment of Metro Manila.

Among the company’s environmental programs are: Sanitasyon Para Sa Barangay ( free septic tank cleaning), construction of new Sewage Treatment Plants; Lingap Kalikasan – ( reforestation and watershed protection), Guardians of the Earth – (groundwater protection), Power Watch / Zero Waste (improved operational efficiency) , and Ecology Center (solid waste management) .

Manila Water employees play a big part in delivering the company’s many environmental programs such as Sanitasyon Para Sa Barangay Program which has already benefited more than 160,000 households. Employees also contribute by doing their share of resource and energy conservation, lessening waste generation, and ensuring clean and safe practices in the work place.

More importantly, Manila Water and every Manila Water employee, by being advocates in their homes and communities, are hand-in-hand in spreading environment awareness ensuring future generations will live in a safer cleaner world.
