“Water is very important to us. Without water, life on earth would be impossible,” says Enrico Jasper, a Grade 6 student at Karangalan Elementary School, in his winning essay. He emphasized the uses and importance of clean water as a source of life and how one should exert extra effort to conserve it.

Last January 30 and February 22, 2007, back-to-back Lingap Eskwela (Water and Sanitation Improvement Program for Schools) programs were inaugurated in Karangalan Elementary School, Cainta, Rizal and in Peñafrancia Elementary School in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City, respectively. The primary objective of the Lingap Eskwela project of Manila Water Company is to ensure that the water being delivered to public schools is safe, clean, and potable. The events provided a venue for discussion on the important accomplishments and services that the company had done in the past and what we intend to do to further improve and expand its services. Also, the events paved the way to share important information to the students, parents and teachers regarding the water treatment processes in transforming raw water into potable water.

Spearheaded by the Antipolo Business Area in coordination with their respective school officials, poster-making and essay-writing contests in English and Filipino were launched for the students. The contests aim to promote the importance of water in our daily lives and as well as to showcase the talents through these essays and drawings. The winners received cash prizes and certificates.
